The request
The collaboration between festival producers JMR and Webkracht goes back many years. JMR asked Webkracht to develop a reusable format for recurring festival editions. Night of the Kaap is the first festival developed within this format.
The challenge
Can a website look good, contain many photos, be easy to manage and also be fast? That was the underlying question and the biggest challenge for this project. Additionally, the format had to be designed to be reusable for other festivals. JMR needed to be able to work on new editions of festivals themselves.
The result
Based on the style instructions, we developed the graphic design for all pages. Our development team then built the website in the Exolog platform. The CMS part of Exolog ensures that the editions are easy to manage. The website can also easily handle high peaks in visitor numbers during festival days, thanks to the web hosting of Exolog optimized for speed.
Webkracht ensured that people could find Night of the Kaap and read all the information about the program, locations, and how to visit the festival. Visitors can also order tickets for the different performances via the website.
About the Night of the Kaap festival
Night of the Kaap is the most fun festival in South Holland. It takes place on the last weekend of June and lasts two days. During the festival, you can enjoy music, theater, dance, and visual arts. There are also tours of the peninsula and workshops you can participate in. The festival is free to attend.
How did Night of the Kaap get its name?
Night of the Kaap owes its name to the old nickname of Katendrecht: 'De Kaap'. During the festival, an image is painted of the history of the peninsula, when it was still a red-light district and sailor's quarter. Katendrecht used to be a place where sailors from all over the world docked. In the 1960s, this changed when the port was closed and the peninsula became a disadvantaged neighborhood.
The origin of the festival
In the 1990s, Katendrecht came back to life. New cafés, restaurants, and clubs opened. The peninsula became a place where young and old could enjoy music, theater, and visual arts. In 2006, the Night of the Kaap festival was introduced. It was an immediate success and has been organized every year since.
